Poon Hill Trek: Short Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, and transfer to Nayapul (trek starting point). Trek to Tikhedhunga (1,540 meters).
Day 3: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,860 meters).
Day 4: Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210 meters) for sunrise views. Trek to Tadapani (2,630 meters).
Day 5: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940 meters).
Day 6: Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul. Drive back to Pokhara.
Day 7: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Free day in Kathmandu.
Day 8: Departure from Kathmandu.

Trekking gear: Sturdy trekking boots, comfortable hiking clothes, a warm jacket, thermal layers, hat, gloves, and a raincoat. Backpack: A comfortable and waterproof backpack to carry your essentials during the trek. Sleeping bag: A warm sleeping bag suitable for colder temperatures. Trekking poles: Optional but recommended for better stability and reducing strain on your knees. Water bottle: Carry a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. You can refill it at teahouses along the trail. Snacks and energy bars: Carry some high-energy snacks to keep you fueled during the trek. First aid kit: Include basic medications for common ailments, bandages, and any personal prescription medications. Toiletries: Carry a small towel, toilet paper, sunscreen, lip balm, and personal hygiene products. Cash: Carry enough Nepalese currency for your expenses during the trek, as ATMs may not be readily available.

These include the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). You can obtain these permits in Kathmandu or Pokhara. Health and Fitness: Trekking in the Himalayas requires a good level of physical fitness. It is advisable to consult with a doctor before undertaking the trek and prepare yourself with regular exercise and training. Travel Insurance: It is mandatory to have travel insurance that covers medical expenses, emergency evacuation, and trekking activities at high altitudes. Make sure your insurance policy covers trekking up to the maximum altitude of the Poon Hill Trek. Accommodation: Accommodation during the trek will be in teahouses or guesthouses along the trail. These are basic lodges providing meals and a place to sleep. Single rooms may not always be available, and you may have to share rooms with fellow trekkers. Altitude Sickness: Acclimatization is crucial to prevent altitude sickness. The trek includes gradual ascent and rest days for acclimatization to the altitude. Listen to your body, drink plenty of water, and follow the guidance of your guide. Weather and Season: The best time to undertake the Poon Hill Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is relatively stable and clear. However, be prepared for changing weather conditions as mountain weather can be unpredictable. Guide and Porter: Hiring a licensed guide and/or porter is highly recommended for a safe and enjoyable trekking experience. They provide local expertise, help with navigation, carry your backpack, and ensure your well-being.
